Management have to be vigilant with regards to stress PDF Print
ImageEmployers could benefit from being able to spot the early signs of stress among its workers, according to an industry expert.

Tom Stewart, joint managing director of independent ergonomic consultancy System Concepts, has said that failing to react to initial warning signs could put "further strain" on an organisation's staff.

He added that management in a firm "has to be vigilant" and look for signs that an employer may be experiencing a problem, saying it is "much more effective to nip it in the bud".

"Because stress is often treated in a humorous way – if you're not stressed you're not working hard enough – there is a tendency for the people who are really suffering to keep quiet and the you don't spot them until it's too late," said Mr Stewart.

A recent survey by employee satisfaction specialists Maven Research found that 61 per cent of workers in the UK are feeling under more pressure than 12 months ago.
