Dudley receives health funding PDF Print
ImageFitness professionals in Dudley could be set to reap the benefits of a large investment in health across the area.

Dudley council and Primary Care Trust has received £4.5 million-worth of grants from the government's Healthy Community Challenge Fund, reports the Express and Star.

The investment is designed to revamp attitudes to health and fitness in people living locally and encourage them to "get up and out".

Plans from the council are to encourage people to exercise and take up a sport, which could lead to more interest and participation in martial arts.

Karen Shakespeare, cabinet member of the environment and culture, told the newspaper: "We are absolutely thrilled to have been successful with this bid which will put Dudley in a great position to improve the health of people across the borough in coming years."

Wrexham council recently announced it was to hand out £10,000 to organisations around the town in order to combat obesity among its residents, the Evening Leader reported.
