Reward schemes 'can help motivate employees during difficult time' PDF Print
ImageIncentive and reward schemes can help to motivate employees during difficult and worrying economic times, according to an industry expert.

Sheila Sheldon, director of European operations at global reward and recognition provider Michal C. Fina, said employee retention can also benefit from recognising their success.

While speaking at the Employee Benefits Live 2008 conference, she added that there is no need to "throw shedloads" of money on benefits, but the process of recognition and "making someone feel valued" can be a key motivational tool.

Ms Sheldon stated: "We've seen major amounts of change going on recently – how do you continue to motivate those individuals who have been kept on and how do you continue to retain them?

"Realistically you can do this by introducing a rewards scheme."

A recent YouGov poll for the Trades Union Congress found that 30 per cent of workers in UK do not feel engaged by their employer and 24 per cent are not satisfied with their job.
