Online advertising 'can help small businesses improve standing' PDF Print
ImageEfficient online advertising can help small businesses improve their standing in their markets, according to one expert.

Tink Taylor, business development director of dotMailer, said that small enterprises can benefit from a strong online presence, adding: "Online marketing allows small savvy businesses to punch above their weight."

Mr Taylor also noted that viral marketing techniques such as forward-to-a-friend and adding content to social networking links in emails allow companies to target new likeminded recipients.

He stated: "The growth of social media also allows businesses to build their brands and develop market-share in ways that just aren’t possible or effective offline."

Recent research from the US suggests that email marketing is the most effective tactic used by small firms.

The Constant Contact Annual Small Business Holiday Survey shows that such companies tend to use a number of various marketing methods, with 60 per cent relying on email marketing during the holiday season.

In addition, 41 per cent of those questioned identified email marketing as having the greatest impact on holiday sales.
