Small business owners 'putting retirement plans on hold' PDF Print
ImageSmall business owners in the West Midlands are putting their retirement plans on hold due to the current economic climate, according to a new study.

Research carried out in the region by Clifton Asset Management (CAM) found that 65 per cent of business owners felt retirement was "now further away" than it seemed 12 months ago.

The Birmingham Post reports the survey, which questioned almost 100 small business owners in the West Midlands, also found that 75 per cent of owner-managers admitted to being optimistic about the prospects of their operation.

Anthony Carty, CAM director, told the newspaper the figures show the economic downturn is "having an impact on people's retirement plans".

He added: "Clearly, the ongoing stock market turmoil and the bail-out of the banks will do nothing to calm people's fears when they come to weigh up their retirement options in the coming months."

The Workplace Motivation Report by T-Mobile recently found that energetic and enthusiastic workers can help to lift their colleagues through economic uncertainty.
