Blogs 'can play an important role in customer communication' PDF Print
ImageThe use of blogs can be a key way for organisations to talk to their customers, according to industry experts.

Social Media Portal (SMP), a resource which maps social media, has said blogs are developing to be more than simply an online journal and can "play an incredibly important role" for those who choose use them.

Rachel Hawkes, co-founder of SMP, said organisations should look to become part of a relevant blogging community and contribute to it in order to find new interested people, together with providing information for current customers.

She added: "Blogs started out as an online journal or diary for individuals and have now evolved into a tool for brands to communicate with their audience, rather than to their audience."

The State of the Blogosphere 2008 report by Technorati found that bloggers collectively create almost one million posts every day.

It also found the average blogger uses five different techniques to drive traffic to their blog.
