Joint and back pain 'main causes of employee absence' PDF Print
ImageJoint and back pain are two of the main reasons why people take time off work in the UK, according to the British Osteopathic Association (BOA).

Speaking on behalf of Back Awareness Week, which ran from October 4th – 10th, Kelston Chorley, osteopath and head of professional development for the BOA, said that back pain is a "massive, massive problem" among workers across the country.

He added that more employers need to get involved with issue and raise awareness of the problems relating to joint and back pain to their employees.

"I'm surprised that more employers don't understand the significance the impact of it has on their work and don't involve their occupational health service a more to highlight the issue to their workforce and take a grip of it," said Mr Chorley.

Figures from the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development's annual Absence Management survey found that sickness absence cost the UK economy £666 per employee in 2007.
