Flexible working 'can help small businesses' PDF Print
ImageSmall businesses can increase their productivity by implementing flexible working practises, according to an expert.

Bill Murphy, managing director of BT Business, has told the Newcastle Journal the telecommunications giant is promoting flexible working initiatives in support of Small Business Week, which gets underway next week.

He added that BT itself found a 20 per cent "increase in productivity" following an implementation of "smarter working practises".

Mr Murphy told the newspaper that studies have demonstrated benefits of flexible working, including "improved staff retention and productivity to cost savings and new business wins".

"In the current economic climate, some small businesses are now taking a short-term view of investment, which might deter them from developing their flexible working capabilities," he warned however.

The Small Business Week is partnered by a number of organisations, including the British Chamber of Commerce, Business Link, Natwest and Growing Business.

It is set to run from Monday 13th October and promote the interests of the 4.6 million plus small businesses in the UK.
