ImageA new study has found that small businesses across the UK are losing £175 million each year.

In news which may interest centre managers looking to travel to international martial art conventions, research by Advantage Travel Centres found that companies can save up to 25 per cent by using a registered travel agent.

TravelMole.com reports that small businesses which either make its own arrangements, or allow a staff member to book blights and hotels "needs to think again".

Norman Gage, director of business travel for Advantage, told the site the level of "wastage" the research found was "astonishing".

"It's absolutely crazy for companies to not manage their travel budget effectively," he added.

"Hopefully these figures will be a wake-up call to small businesses across the country."

The Federation of Small Businesses recently wrote to the prime minister to outline new measures to help small companies the current economic climate.
