Businesses 'left out of fuel poverty package' PDF Print
ImageBusinesses are being left out of the government's fuel poverty package despite being similar to domestic users, according to the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB).

The government recently unveiled plans to help over ten million households to cut their energy bills through measures including double glazing and improved insulation.

Marc Shoffman from the FSB said the current approach to the policy is "one size fits all" and businesses could suffer as a result.

He cited a recent FSB survey of its members, which found that 40 per cent of respondents admitted they may have to lay off staff over the next year due to increasing fuel and energy costs.

"Small businesses are missed out and not seen as important, when really they are similar to domestic users, and we would like to see them treated as such," added Mr Shoffman.

The FSB promotes the interests of small firms across the UK and currently has over 205,000 members across 230 branches.
