Sweat and the City launched across London PDF Print
ImageA new scheme is being introduced across London to encourage more women to get active.

Sweat in the City has been devised by the Women's Sport and Fitness Foundation (WSFF) in partnership with the Fitness Industry Association, reports Sky News.

The scheme aims to offer free gym membership and a mentored fitness regime to up to 3,000 women aged between 16 and 24 who live in the capital.

Sweat in the City is set to kick-off at the end of September and follows research from the WSFF which found that 81 per cent of women do not do enough physical exercise.

WSFF chief executive Sue Tibballs told the news provider: "The scheme provides us with a unique way to speak to women and better understand how to inspire them to stay active.

"With the British female athletes doing so well in Beijing and our attention turning to 2012, we hope women from across London will feel inspired to take part."

TV personality Kirsty Gallagher recently told Dudley News that the sports and fitness industry needs more female role models to "inspire" women.
