Employers 'should develop staff communication skills' PDF Print
ImageThe best way for staff to develop communication skills is through feedback, according to an industry expert.

According to the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), communication and influencing skills are "very important" for workers and their development should be monitored and feedback given.

Martyn Sloman, learning and development advisor for the CIPD, said that these skills can be "developed on the job", mainly through "experience".

"The workplace is changing quite a bit. The routine processing type of work is disappearing and people are being expected to use far more of their initiative," he added.

"Companies are trying to ensure that people get far more feedback in the workplace and coaching from individual line managers is increasing."

Successful entrepreneur Shaa Wasmund recently said that females suffer from a "lack of confidence", which stands in the way of them starting their own businesses.
