Females suffer from a "lack of confidence" when it comes to starting their own businesses, according to an expert.Shaa Wasmund, a successful entrepreneur and chief executive of Bright Station Ventures, said that a woman's own perception is "the biggest factor" which stands in the way of them establishing a new venture. A lack of self-belief that they "can genuinely achieve whatever they put their minds to" hinders women, according to Ms Wasmund. "I don't necessarily think it's a reality that's it's more difficult for women to set up their own business," she added. "I would really encourage women to look at the reality and the reality is that women are just as successful, if not more successful, than men in running their own businesses." The Natwest and RBS Small Business Monitor 2008 found that just 19 per cent of women have set up a business or considered doing so, compared to 32 per cent of men. ![]() |
