Small business managers 'working longer hours' PDF Print
ImageA new survey has found that some small business managers could be working over 50 hours per week.

Research by The Bank of Scotland, which surveyed over 1,000 small and medium businesses, found that managers of companies growing at over ten per cent a year work an average of 52.3 hours per week.

More Than Business News reports that the survey also found that 24 per cent of respondents admitted that they will not take a full week off over the course of the year.

Some 26 per cent also said that they expected to work extra hours due to the current economic climate.

Alan Tyrell, employment chairman for the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB), told the website that "administrative burden" is "a big problem".

"In order to keep their businesses alive during a downturn, small business owners are having to make sacrifices in their work-life balance," he added.

The FSB recently warned that rising energy costs were "a concern" for its members and it was "extremely concerned" of the large impact businesses could face.
