Rising costs 'affecting small businesses' PDF Print
ImageOver three quarters of small business owners have admitted that rising fuel costs are having an effect on their trade, according to a new survey.

Research from Bibby Financial Services found that the rising costs were affecting 79 per cent of small firms and 35 per cent were looking to diversify or grow their business to cope with the prices.

SMEWeb.com reports that 52 per cent of respondents admitted to already passing on increased costs to their customers.

David Robertson, chief executive of Bibby Financial Services, told the website that the fuel crisis has "become a very public issue overnight".

"Owners and managers must take steps now to fortify their cash flow and reduce the risk of the fuel crisis on their business from being any greater than it already is," he added.

The National Federation of Enterprise Agencies recently revealed that the "good level" of business start-ups experienced in the first half of 2008 was "encouraging".
