FIA joins government obesity pledge PDF Print
ImageThe Fitness Industry Association (FIA) has joined a group of leading companies to support the government in fighting UK obesity.

A consortium of media, advertising, food, retail, fitness and healthcare businesses will work with the government to encourage exercise and a healthy diet ahead of the 2012 Olympics.

UTalkMarketing.com reports that over £200 million will be contributed by the industry leaders over the next four years on top of the government's three year £75 million pledge.

Baroness Peta Buscombe, chief executive of the Advertising Association who spearheads the consortium, said: "Business is part of the solution to tackling obesity in the UK.

"Through this coalition, we are all making a strong statement that we are committed to working with government and the voluntary sector to transform the health of the nation and be a force for good," she added.

In other news, a new campaign to get women in London to do more exercise has been launched.

The Press Association reports that the Women's Sport and Fitness Foundation aims to give 3,000 women access to FIA health clubs.
