Next-generation broadband 'is important to businesses' PDF Print
ImageThe next generation of broadband is "hugely important" to businesses in the UK, an online expert has warned.

Michael Philips, product director for BroadbandChoice.co.uk, said that an increased broadband speed across the country "will have a big impact" on the way that businesses conduct their work.

According to Mr Philips, opportunities for home working and remote conferencing will be expanded, as they are currently "quite hard work".

"Particularly as we work in a service economy in this country where things like creative services, such as design, require that we can move large files over high bandwidth connections instantaneously," he added.

Virgin Media recently revealed that it plans to offer broadband speeds of 200MB per second by 2012.

Chief technology officer Howard Watson told Reuters that the company was looking to "free up capacity on its network" to allow the increased speed.
