Six million people sue their employer PDF Print
ImageNew research has shown the numbers of workers who are suing their employers for injuries at work.

A study by YouGov, commissioned by insurance firm RSA, calculated that 11.8 million people had suffered injuries or illness at work in the previous 12 months.

Of these, it also found that more than half had sued their employer, with an extra third going to their trade union.

Almost half of the injuries experienced at work were back strains and the results show that one in five people were off for between one and six months due to an injury or illness.

Colin Bradbury, underwriting director at RSA, said: "If there are team members missing or unable to take part in decisions, this can only have a negative effect on the business and involve the company in significant costs."

The Association of British Insurers recently said that private medical insurance could benefit small businesses, saying that losing staff to long-term sickness could be "devastating" for small operations.
