'Small businesses losing money due to filing' PDF Print
ImageSmall and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the UK are losing revenue from searching for misfiled documents.

A YouGov survey, commissioned by document management firm Invu, found that SMEs in the UK lose £42.2 million per day due to lost documentation.

The figure is the result of findings which showed that 80 per cent of managers waste up to one hour of their time per day looking for documents in the 4.5 million SMEs in the UK.

It also found that only seven per cent of SMEs have over 91 per cent of their documents electronically saved, with only seven per cent operating a "predominantly paperless office".

George Derbyshire, chief executive of the National Federation of Enterprise Agencies, said: "This research is quite frightening and is an example of how everyday inefficiencies can have a very damaging effect on small businesses."

Different research found that green IT policies are saving UK businesses ten per cent on their energy costs.

Vnunet.com reports that the survey by Bell Micro found a "clear gap" between green policies and large savings.
