Small business owners should encourage staff to take time off work to "relax", an industry expert has recommended. The advice follows the publication of new survey which found that small business employees are not getting enough time away from work. A study by Clydesdale and Yorkshire Banks found that 44 per cent of employees admitted to not taking their full entitlement of holiday throughout the year and 77 per cent continue to keep in touch with work during holiday time. It also showed that 40 per cent of British small business workers are not "enjoying their jobs" as much as they used to. Mike Williams, head of business banking at Clydesdale and Yorkshire Banks, said that the figures show an "inability to relax" among UK workers. "Business owners should try to ensure that their staff take full advantage of their annual leave entitlement. This could lead to a happier, more productive workforce," he added. Carole White, building up business manager at Tedco, recently told the Newcastle Journal that employees should ask themselves: "Would I rather give 70 per cent for 52 weeks a year or 110 per cent for 47 weeks?" ![]() |
