PBS to challenge smaller firms PDF Print
ImageSmaller firms should ensure they are familiar with the changes made by the government to the country's immigration system.

The Confederation of British Industry (CBI) has said that introducing a points-based system (PBS) for migrant workers could prove a challenge for small companies.

Neil Carberry, senior policy advisor at the CBI, commented: "For larger firms the PBS is likely to be a successful innovation, but for smaller firms with less HR capacity, the higher fees and higher responsibilities will be a challenge."

He added that the initiative is a "flexible" way to manage immigration, but highlighted the fact that it is "important that small forms are not priced out".

The PBS immigration system came into force in the UK on February 29th and will see new criteria set for those migrants looking to work in Britain.

It will mean that only those with relevant skills and experience will be able to work in the country.
