Generic domain names "money well spent" PDF Print
ImagePurchasing a generic domain name could be a wise move for small firm, one expert has suggested.

Despite the high price tag of some internet addresses, the value of an easily-recognisable website is often worthwhile, explained Matt Mansell, managing director of Domainmonster.com

He explained that purchasing a domain name can often account for the largest part of a company's marketing spend.

Several generic domain names - the ones ending in .co.uk or .com – have risen in price recently with cruises.co.uk selling for a record £560,000 last month.

Mr Mansell said: "One of the reasons why they are achieving those prices is because the brands want the people who drive past some above the line advertising on the side of the road or on a billboard, to remember what they see, and follow it up."

A strong domain name can act as a "call to action", the expert added, suggesting that a web address is easier to remember than a telephone number.
